Final Project Assignment-OC4331, Fall 02

This Quarter's Selections: Topics, Students, and Dates

Order of Presentation and Dates

List of Topics to choose from

Instructions

Your final project will consist of a single-page summary (using supplied WWW template) and an in-class presentation on one of the topics we have already discussed during the quarter. The goals of the projects are to: 1) provide a more in-depth account of several of the processes outlined during the course and 2) to improve/test your ability to organize a short report and presentation for maximum effectiveness, and 3) Provide a resource for this and future mesoscale classes. Some of the important ground rules are given below:

  1. All projects will be individual or two-person efforts.
  2. All projects will research a topic and prepare an electronic summary with references (1-3 pages).
  3. Each project should be based on 1-2 research papers, textbooks, and the web.
  4. All projects will be presented in 20 minutes during Thursday class periods over weeks four through ten of class; Volunteers followed by random drawing for the order of presentations.
  5. Summaries will follow WWW template supplied by instructor: 1) Click link to the www template, 2) File-Save As-Source, 3) Edit file with a word processor or HTML web page authoring tool (e.g., Netscape Composer) to replace sections with relevant material, figures, and references.
  6. Each summary/presentation must clearly describe the connection to earlier discussions during the quarter in the beginning of the report or talk. Introduce your project by stating which prior discussion topic it will address.
  7. Each project will be graded on both organization and content.
  8. All presentations should be attended by all course participants. Attendance will count toward individual presentation grades.

The topics below available for final projects. You are not free to choose topics from outside this list without prior consultation of the instructor.
