PIPS 3.0 Ice model Improvements

Planned PIPS 3.0 Ice model Improvements (after Bitz et al., 2000) are:
  • Multi-category vs. single category thickness distribution.
  • Multiple layers vs. single layer, allowing:
    • non-linear vertical ice temperature profile.
    • vertically varying salinity.
  • The addition of a snow layer.
  • Brine pocket parameterization.
  • Assimilation of ice motion and satellite derived ice concentration data (follow the link below for more information).
