Projections Notes

Three notes on projections follow that give an overview of projections, the many ways to classify projections and the meaning of their properties. A few details on the most common projections follows in part II. Most mathematical details are not presented. The most important projections for the military, the Universal Transverse Mercator and Universal Polar Stereographic are covered in more detail in the third part. These make up the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) that is also discussed.
