Application of the Navy Models and Scenarios
In this section of the course, you will get hands-on experience using the various products and models.
First, view the lecture slides on SDOM, the Simulated Drift Object Model
Next, view the slides on REACT, the Rapid Environmental Assessment Chart Tactical
Next, you'll be downloading and working with GNOME, the General NOAA Oil Modeling Environment, a model that is used by the Navy in the Arabian Gulf, and runs locally.
Finally, you'll work on some realistic applications and scenarios. We recommend that you do these on the SIPRNET if you have access. You will find the scenarios, and links to operational NAVO and FNMOC products, at http://www.nps.navy.smil.mil/oc2910/scenarios/. If you do not have SIPRNET access, you may work through the same scenarios here, using the limited products available, plus some supplementary files that we have made available.
