Dear Olaf,
Thanks again for your comments regarding the WOCE drifter data set from the Confluence and the cross-frontal exchange issue.

Due to its small cross-slope migrations, the northward flowing branch of the Malvinas south of about 40S is probably a good area to attempt obtaining independent estimates the barotropic component from floats, CMs and altimeter.

In connection to the cross-frontal exchange it would be useful to check if the eddies and meanders that appear to have migrated to the opposite side of the front at the AAIW level also have core properties with mixtures from their parent water masses. Inspection of historical (CTD) data only reveals strong mixing activity close to the front. Thus, at least from the water-mass perspective, the intrusions mix fast, re-coalesce or are advected to the interior.
Best regards, Alberto
