The float was launched in a triad ( 87 , 88 , 89) ~104 km west of Monterey Bay approximately along CalCOFI Line67. The floats were launched in an across-shore row with a distance between their launching points of about 18 km.

After the launching the float was moving along the coast for 43 days and then curled in a reversing flow (Figure 2). The float entered the Undercurrent on July 21, 2001 and remained there for about 60 days. North of Cape Mendocino it made several small anticyclonic loops (Figure 4) and then continued moving along the coast. Off Point Saint George it seems to be trapped by an offshore jet and moved westward into the interior. Starting from September 26, 2001 it made another series of anticyclonic loops (Figure 4).

Number of loops 5 3
Diameter, km 17.3 20.8

Between May 11 and 27, 2003 it experienced a reversing flow.

The float was balanced for 275 dbar but the real pressure was between 305.7 and 364.3 dbar (Figure 3).
