The float was launched as part of quartet (NPS#79 (deep float), NPS#80 , NPS#81 , and NPS#82) in an across-shore row with the nearest to the shore point of ~70 km distant and a distance between the launching points in the row of about 26.5 km (Figure 2).

The float was entrained in the Undercurrent after the launch on July 26, 2000 and was moving there until October 21, 2000. Then it left the undercurrent just offshore of C. Mendocino and moved into the interior (Figure 1). During the last 175 days (starting from April 1, 2001) of its subsurface mission the float made three consequent cyclonic loops with period of ~50 days and average diameter of 90 km. The mean swirl velocity was 6.3 cm/s, and the translation velocity not more than 1.2 cm/s (Figure 1).

The float was ballasted for 275 dbar. While in the undercurrent the float waved between 140 and 280 dbar (Figure 3 ). Then the pressure tendency became more clear and the float rose from ~240 to 180  during ~ 200 days. During cyclonic movements the pressure was relatively stable 204.6±6.7 dbar (Figure 3 ).
