The float was launched in a pair with NPS#55 about 100 km offshore south of San Francisco (Figure 1). The distance between the floats was less than 3 km.
After the launch the float first moved southward, then between October 2 and 15, 1997 it made a cyclonic loop with diameter of ~30 km, turned northeastward and on October 26, 1997 was entrained in the undercurrent (Figure 2). It was moving alongshore till November 25, 1997 when off Point Arena it moved offshore. Moving westward the float made two consecutive cyclonic loops with diameter of about 30 km and period ~14 days. Before surfacing the float was moving along a cyclonical curve with ~100-km diameter.
The float was ballasted for 275 dbar but actually moved at 381.3 ± 6.3 dbar (Figure 3 ).
