The float was launched in a triad with NPS#12 and NPS#14 about 100 km southwest of San Francisco (Figure 2). The floats in the triad were launched in a nearly equilateral triangular pattern with a side of about 8 km. Two floats in the triad were situated approximately above the 1500-m isobath, about 50 km from Point Arena, while the third was launched at the offshore apex of the triangle.

After launching the float went westward, never encountering the undercurrent (Figure 1, Figure 2).

The float was ballasted for 350 dbar but sank from 100 to ~550 dbar during first ten days, then showed a constant slow depth increase (up to 600 dbar) over the mission probably due to slow leaks in the hollow ballast weight (Figure 3).
