The float was launched in a triad with NPS#4 and NPS#10 about 100 km southwest of San Francisco (Figure 2). The floats in the triad were launched in a nearly equilateral triangular pattern with a side of about 8 km.

Immediately after launching the float entered the undercurrent and moved along the coast till October 17, 1993. To south of Pt. Saint George the float was entrained by an anticyclonic eddy (Figure 4) with diameter of about 70 km and period of 14 days:

After making two loops, the float turned offshore at Cape Blanco and then moved westward in a relatively smooth trajectory (Figure 1).

The float was ballasted for 350 dbar but the real depth reached by the float was between 240 and 340 dbar (Figure 3).
