The float was launched in a triad (NPS#3, NPS#5, NPS#7) in a nearly equilateral triangular pattern with a side of about 8 km. The float was situated ~100 km west of San Francisco Figure 2. It was a successful 60-day mission with a sampling rate 3 day.

The float moved westward and then south-westward almost immediately after launch, never encountering the undercurrent Figure 1. On July 27, 1993 the float was entrained by an anticyclonic eddy (Figure 4) with diameter of about 38 km and period of 7 days

Number of loops 7
Diameter, km 38.1
Duration, days 35
Period, days 7
Swirl velocity, cm/s 19.8
Translation velocity, cm/s 2.9

Target depth was 350 dbar but the float remained at about 300 dbar during first three weeks of its mission. Then it gradually sank to ~340 dbar while entering the eddy (Figure 3).
