Examples of Web Mapping Apps for CMSP
- Data Exploration for CMSP: turn a variety of layers on and off to see what's where and avoid potential use conflicts. These examples show a variety of different layers that are important in marine spatial planning:
American Samoa Example - Storymap of coastal activities and usess
- Elevation and bathymetry profiles - Users can draw a line and get the elevation profile on land and/or water along that transect. Initial view is set on Oahu, but each subregion has one available.
- Visibility / viewshed analysis - This map is an example of a viewshed analysis, where you can see the locations that viewer looking from the best-known beaches on Oahu would be able to see. The analysis is based on a 6-foot observer and a visibility of 10 miles. Other analyses that could be done in this type of map are for proposed structures out in the ocean - where on land would the structures be visible?
- Current conditions - Real-time data feeds on wind and temperature from stations and buoys in Hawaii, weather radar, traffic, current hazards and warnings and hurricane updates.
- Collect input from stakeholders / public - a form is used to collect information on recreational activities on American Samoa. The data can be immediately viewed on a map.
