This file describes the NPS NCEX cross-shore and alongshore co-located PUV arrays, vertical tower, A-frame, horizontal ADCP, and offshore directional ADCP (Thornton, Stanton, and MacMahan). For descriptions of these data formats, see the either the "readme.puv" or "readme.vadcp" text document. ******************************************************************************************** NPS instrument coordinates are similar to Scripps: "Coordinates are given in lat-long and our NCEX rectangular coordinate system which has 0,0 close to piling 3 on the SIO pier (north side of pier, close to shoreline) aligned to be shore normal at the swash array, located at alongshore coordinate 2700 m. Lat-Long is converted to a UTM rectangular grid, and an offset is subtracted to make 0,0 be pier piling 3. The Lat-long of piling 3 is lat = 32 + 51/60. + 58.59779/3600 lon = -1*(117 + 15/60. + 15.40493/3600. West of meridian ongitude is negative in the convention used here. There is no rotation from E-W, N-S of the rectangular grid." (see Elgar et al., NCEX metadata). 'PUV' means instrument pole, which means the location of co-located electomagnetic current meter and pressure sensor. These instruments measure cross- (u), alongshore (v) velocity, and pressure (p). 'PARO' means Paroscientific (buried) pressure (p) gage. If you need vertical locations relative to MSL, contact Jamie MacMahan. Times are denoted as mmddhhhh, so 10260900 means Oct (10), 26th day, 0900 hours PST, or as mmdd, so 1027 means Oct 27th. Data were collected continuously at rates between 1-15 Hz (except for xy-altimeter; see below). If data were rejected by quality control algorithms, there is no time series for that sensor for that run.
