Dear Allison,
thank you to comment the WBC poster.
I am sorry, I am not in my office and I don't
remember exactly the Eulerian transports for the
model, just the mean westward Indonesian Throughflow that is around 12 Sv. Some model-
observations transport comparisons were done for
some of the Atlantic Equatorial currents in the
Blanke et al. JPO 1999 paper. I will be back on
my office on Tuesday and I will send you some
more values.
About the Agulhas eddies, as the ORCA model is not eddy permitting, all the flow from the Indian to the Atlantic is achieved through a mean flow.
The mean effect of the eddies should be accounted in the model through the mass field toward which the model is restored (Levitus ).
Our estimates of water mass transfers are obtained using the full seasonal cycle when integrating trajectories. We could provide the monthly variability, but for such Lagrangian diagnostics it would depend both on monthly conditions over initial and final sections. Thus we only propose mean annual values in the poster. Being a robust diagnostic simulations, the model
does not exhibit any interannual variability.
The origins of Tasmanian leakage waters are geographycally a wide recirculation around the subtropical Pacific Gyre (with some escapade in the northern basin); in term of water masses, the TAS water are essentailly formed (the last time they "see" the mixing layer) in the subantarctic frontal region.
Again, thank you very much!
Sabrina
