Thank you for your informative comment. This poster of mine has focused
largely on how the low-frequency and large-scale changes in the KE can
influence the anomalous SST distributions. The more important question
as to what causes the KE changes is unanswered. Given the shortness of
the record, I am somewhat reluctant to compare the time series of the
altimetrically-derived KE axis to an ENSO index (e.g., the SOI). I am
presently running an OGCM of the Pacific Ocean and one of the hypotheses
to be tested is whether the observed large-scale KE changes are remotely
forced by the ENSO events as indicated by Jacobs et al.. Hopefully,
I will be able to answer your question in the near future.

: with long term ocean processes. Good job! Have you tried to
: make correlations with El Nino events? Do you recall the paper
: by Jacobs et al. which appeared in Nature (Aug, 1994) which
: linked the 1992 El Nino to effects on the Kuroshio nearly a
: decade later?
