Its very important to make these kinds of climate connections
with long term ocean processes. Good job! Have you tried to
make correlations with El Nino events? Do you recall the paper
by Jacobs et al. which appeared in Nature (Aug, 1994) which
linked the 1992 El Nino to effects on the Kuroshio nearly a
decade later?
