I agree with your comment about the NAC- at least
it is in the right location! Not sure about the
high EKE at ~50N, 47W. I think the high EKEs
could be due to the wind forcing or maybe the
model is not viscous enough. If we had more
computer power we could explore parameter space
and try different wind products. Unfortunately
those resources are not available at present.
We use ETOP05 topography-it is not filtered or
smoothed, rather it is just interpolated to the
model grid and key passges are checked to
encourage reasonable transports. If you have
further interest in the NAC send me email and you
are welcome to look more closely at the model
output.
