The choice of bin size was made to ensure adequate
feature resolution and number of observations
per bin. We examined MKE for a range of bin
sizes. MKE values are seen to increase sharply
for bin sizes less than 2 degrees, whereas MKE
values only increase slightly for 6 to 2 degree bins.
We do not want to use bins that are highly
sensitive to the choice of size. And of course, we
are covering the entire North Atlantic basin.
