Dear Gustavo,
Thanks for your comments. I really believe that one day the Mercosur contries will be able to monitor the convergence region in a more reliable way, with field cruises and satellite synoptic observations.
We are still to assess the importance of the convergence latitudinal displacement in our weather and costal climate, for instance.
What we do know for now, though, is that we really need more research ships working in the convergence region (not to speak about the rest of Brazil) and a system of moored buoys to get more information on the atmosphere and water column in the study area.
I know that Dr Edmo Campos from IOUSP is setting u by know some new collaborations and projects in the convergence area and perhaps we can end up with something like the PIRATA project for the southern south Atlantic in the near future.
From the data set I worked with for this particular paper, however, it was impossible to assess any information about the in situ vertical characteristics of the eddies. My data set came from the COROAS project which was interested in studing the Brazil Current off Sao Paulo State, north of the convergence.
More information about my work can be seen in http://www.soton.ac.uk/~rbds/projtes.html
Saludos!
