I think perhaps we are having a difficulty with our communication rather
than with reading the salinity colorbar. The event to which I was trying
to draw attention was the ~900m salinity *at* day 325, which is higher than
those before or after it. I can't figure out how to send a picture to the
forum, so here is some of the data for SN 59:

Day: 295 325 355
Salinity at 800 dbar:34.37 34.46 34.36
Salinity at 900 dbar:34.40 34.43 34.40

And correspondingly at day 325, the altimetry signal is relatively low
compared to tau.

You are correct that the salinity decreases again *after* day 350. The
extremely dark color in the intermediate layer around day 385 represents
a relative salinity minimum in intermediate waters of around 34.27 psu.
