Julie, I checked out the four figs from POP.
They look quite good! The deep eddy velocities
clearly often exceed 20 cm/s in the model (up
to 50 cm/s obs). The path of the upper front
certainly develops fast in connection with the
deep eddies! The horizontal scale of the model
deep eddies looks almost twice as large as those
observed on our poster. Nevertheless, this is an
important step in the right direction, because
until models can have fine grid spacing and reduce
their effective dissipation, their deep eddies
were grossly underrepresented. Good work, and
thanks for the quick illustration.
