TITLE:
Surf Beat - forcing, dissipation and sediment dynamics
DATE:

TIME:

PLACE:

ABSTRACT
The presentation will discuss the generation and dissipation of long waves (surf beat) by wave groups and how recent laboratory observations compare to theoretical predictions. Data considered will include long-wave short wave interactions, bichromatic wave groups, random waves and transient waves. In particular, the presentation will consider if the loss of energy from the primary (short) waves is significant and the fate of the incident bound long wave at the short wave breakpoint. The seminar will also present some recent data examining the influence of the long waves on sediment dynamics and the influence of morphological feedback between the swash and surf zone on longshore bar behaviour.
