Web-based Courses in the Oceanography Department The following courses are offered in a web-based format:
- OC2902: Fundamentals of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) - Fundamentals of GIS with an emphasis on the practical application of GIS to military-relevant problems. Topics include the basic theory and principles of GIS, data collection and input, data management, and spatial query and analysis.
- OC2930: Oceanography for Undersea Warfare - Basic concepts in geological, physical, chemical, and biological oceanography, with emphasis on navy-relevant topics such as acoustics and environmental issues such as marine mammal mitigation and global climate change.
- OC2020: MATLAB Programming for Scientists and Engineers - this course provides the student with a foundation in basic programming concepts in general and in the MATLAB environment and syntax in particular.
These courses are offered by the Oceanography Department of the Naval Postgraduate School as fully online, instructor-led distance learning courses. Availability is limited to U.S. military Officers and Enlisted personnel, and U.S. Government Civilians. International students and government contractors are not eligible. The cost is $1,750 per course per student. NPS follows a quarter system, with 12-week quarters as follows:
